but once. If therefore, there
be any kindness I can show,
or any good thing I can do
to any fellow being, let me
do it now, and not defer or
neglect it, as I shall not pass
this way again.

quote by Pearl Buck
There were many ways of breaking a heart.
Stories were full of hearts broken by love,
but what really broke a heart was taking away its dream -- whatever that dream might be.

quote by A Neilen
If you have not often felt the joy of doing a kind act,
you have neglected much,
and most of all yourself.

Experience by Jane Merchant
I found this poem in the book "Think About These Things" copyrighted 1956. Whatever was going on in the world when the poem was written still sounds like the world today.
What happend today?
The newsmen tell
The tidings so:
A government fell,
A statesman was killed,
An airplane crashed,
A city cowered,
Hurricane-lashed.
But here upon
This quite street
An old, old lady,
Grave and sweet,
Handed a rose
To a crying child,
And sunlight sparkled
As they smiled.
I must believe
The clamorous, raw
News; but the smile
Is what I saw.

quote by Dr Wayne W Dyer
Forgiveness is the most
powerful thing you can
do for yourself on the
spiritual path. If you
can't learn to forgive,
you can forget about getting
to higher levels of awareness.

Got Brains?
I had breakfast at this little diner that is close by.
They are one of the few places in town that still sells brains and eggs. (NO I don't eat that. Turns my stomach just thinking about it.)
Didn't here what the customer actually said but I am guessing he said he wanted brains and eggs.
What I did here was Tim (the cook) say:
I don't have any brains.
But I have them ordered.

Friends
Ain't it fine when things are going
Topsy-turvy and askew
To discover someone showing
Good old-fashioned faith in you?
Ain't it good when life seems dreary
And your hopes about to end,
Just to feel the handclasp cheery
Of a fine old loyal friend?
Gosh! one fellow to another
Means a lot from day to day,
Seems we're living for each other
In a friendly sort of way.
When a mile or cheerful greetin'
Means so much to fellows sore,
Seems we ought to keep repeating'
Smiles an' praises more an' more.

Lets all help Vivian
Please if you haven't been reading my other journal go there right now and read about a fellow J-lander. Vivian had her computer stolen (along with other things) and with it all of her graphics.
Seeing that she was voted Best Use of Graphics in our last awards it seems only right that we try to help her get her collection started again.
Click on these links read about it. If I did this right a new window should open and you won't lose your place here:
Vivian needs our thoughts and prayers
Come on and lets show Vivian how much we love her.
Thanks,
Kathy

Time for a rerun. Orginally posted 2-29-04

How to be cheerful, do you say,
When the wind is cold and the skies are gray?
How to be cheerful? Just one way:
Forget yourself for a while today.
Never mind self and your irksome cares.
Somebody else greater burden bears.
Stretch out a helping hand and play
The friend to all who may chance your way.
You'll never be cheerful sitting there
Sorrowing over the hurts your bear,
For never a joyous hour is known
By the man who thinks of himself alone.
How to be cheerful? Scatter cheer;
Share your life with your neighbors here;
Encourage the weary and comfort the sad
And you'll find more joy than you've ever had.

Kindness
Is more important
Than wisdom,
And the recognition
of this
is the beginning
of wisdom.

Limericks by Edward Lear
There was an Old Man with a beard,Who said, "It is just as I feared!!--
Two Owls and a Hen,
Four Larks and a Wren,
Have all Built their nests in my beard!"
There was on Old Lady of Chertsey,
Who made a remarkable curtsey;
She twirled round and round, till she
underground,
Which distressed all the people Chersey.
There was an Old Man whose despair
Induced him to purchase a hare:
Whereon one fine day, he rode wholly away,
Which partly assuaged his despair.
There was an Old Man who said "Hush!
I perceive a young bird in this bush!"
When they said, "Is it small?"
He replied, "Not at all!
It is four times as big as the bush!"

quote by Horace Mann

Doing nothing for others is the undoing of one's self. We must be purposely kind and generous or we miss the best part of life's existence. The heart that goes out of itself gets large and full of joy. We do ourselves most good by doing something for others.

Re-Run Entry
What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?
Follow your heart -- to wherever it leads.
Practice kindness.
Go confidently in the direction of your dreams.
Life is a journey -- not a destination. Enjoy the moments.
Every time a smile is given, a heart is healed.
Dwell in possibility.
Friends -- so much cheaper than a shrink.
You must be the change you wish to see in the world.
Dance as if no one were watching, Sing as if no one were listening, Live every day as if it were your last.
An unkept house is better than a life unlived!
If you are going to pray, don't worry. If you are going to worry, don't pray.
Relax and Breathe
Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss you'll land among the stars.
One loyal friend is worth ten thousand relatives.
A friend hears the song in my heart and sings it back to me when my memory fails.

quote by M Scott Peck
The reason to forgive is for your own
sake. For our own health. Because
beyond that point needed for healing,
if we hold on to our anger we stop
growing and our souls begin
to shrivel.

another summer re-run

Joy stands on the hilltops,
Beckoning to me,
Urging me to journey
Up where I can see
Blue skies ever smiling,
Cool green fields below,
Hear the songs of children
Still untouched by woe.

Joy stands on the hilltops,
Urging me to stay,
Spite of toil and trouble,
To life's rugged way,
Holding out a promise
Of a life serene
When the steeps I've mastered
Lying now between.

Joy stands on the hilltops,
Smiling down at me,
Urging me to clamber
Up where I can see
Over toil and trouble
Far beyond despair,
And I answer smiling:
Some day I'll be there.
