quote time again

It had been repeated experience that when you said to life calmly and firmly (but very firmly!). "I trust you; do what you must," life had an uncanny way of responding to your need.  --  Olga Ilyin

The old happiness is withered and dead.  But, see, there is greenness veiling the land.....the frail beginnings of a new and better life.  --  Pam Brown

I don't think of myself as a poor deprived ghetto girl who made good.  I think of myself as somebody who from an early age knew I was responsible for myself, and I had to make good.  --  Oprah Winfrey

It is in the shelter of each other that the people live.  --  Irish Proverb

Our lives are like the course of the sun.  At the darkest moment there is promise of daylight.  --  London "Times" Editorial, December 24, 1984

Invictus by William Ernest Henley

Out of the night that covers me,
Black the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods my be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find me, unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

With Every Rising of the Sun

With every rising of the sun
Think of your life as just begun.

The past has shrived and buried deep
All yesterday--there let them sleep.....

Concern yourself with but today,
Woo it and teach it to obey,

Your wish and will.  Since time began
Today has been the friend of man.....

You and today! a soul sublime
And the great pregnant hour of time.

With God between to bind the twain--
Go forth I say--attain---attain.

A Poison Tree

I was angry with my friend;
I told my wrath, my wrath did end.
I was angry with my foe:
I told it not, my wrath did grow.

And I watered it in fears
Night and morning with my tears,
And I sunned it with smiles
And with soft deceitful wiles.

And it grew both day and night,
Till it bore an apple bright,
And my foe beheld it shine,
And he knew that it was mine--

And into my garden stole
When the night had veiled the pole;
In the morning, glad, I see
My foe outstretched beneath the tree.

create you own dream

Always Create Your Own Dreams
and Live Life to the Fullest
   Dreams can come true
if you take the time to
think about what you want in life

   Get to know yourself
   Find out who you are
   Choose your goals carefully
   Be honest with yourself
   Always believe in yourself

Find many interests and pursue them
Find out what is important to you
Find out what you are good at
Don't be afraid to make mistakes
   Work hard to achieve successes

When things are not going right
don't give up - just try harder
Give yourself freedom to try out new things
Laugh and have a good time
   Open yourself up to love

Take part in the beauty of nature
Be appreciative of all that you have
Help those less fortunate than you
Work towards peace in the world
   Live life to the fullest

   Create your own dreams and
follow them until they are a reality

I Might Have Been Worse

Sometimes I pause and sadly think
Of the things that might have been,
Of the golden chances I let slip by,
And which never returned again.

Think of the joys that might have been mine;
The prizes I almost won,
The goals I missed by a mere hair's breadth;
And the things I might have done.

It fills me with gloom when I ponder thus,
Till I look on the other side,
How I might have been completely engulfed
By misfortune's surging tide.

The unknown dangers lurking about,
Which I passed safely through
The evils and sorrows that I've been spared
Pass plainly now in review.

So when I am downcast and feeling sad,
I repeat over and over again,
Things are far from being as bad
As they easily might have been.

Morning Prayer

When little things would irk me, and I grow

Impatient with my dear one, make me know

How in a moment you can take its flight

And happiness be quenched in endless night.

Keep this thought with me all the livelong day

That I may guard the harsh words I might say

When I would fret and grumble, fiery hot,

At trifles that tomorrow are forgot--

Let me remember, Lord, how it would be

If these, my loved ones, were not here with me.

GOTTA LOVE LITTLE BOYS

Two young boys walked into a pharmacy one day, picked out a box of Tampax and proceeded to the checkout counter.

The man at the counter asked the older boy, "Son, how old are you?" "Eight", the boy replied.

The man continued, "Do you know what these are used for?" The boy replied, "Not exactly, but they aren't for me. They are for him.

He's my brother. He's four. We saw on TV that if you use these you would be able to swim and ride a bike. He can't do either one.

Count That Day Lost

If you sit down at set of sun
And count the acts that you have done,
And, counting, find
One self-denying deed, one word
That eased the heart of him who heard,
One glance most kind
That fell like sunshine where it went---
Then you may count that day well spent.

But if, through all the livelong day,
You've cheered no heart, by yea or nay---
If, through it all
You've nothing done that you can trace
That brought the sunshine to one face---
Not act most small
That helped some soul and nothing cost---
Then count that day as worse than lost.

Search Out Joy

Never mind pleasure. Search out joy. Pleasure is its shadow. But joy is real, a secret splendor running through all creation.

Like gold, it doesn't lie about the streets waiting to be picked up. It has to be dug for, with diligence and passion. It's in people, to be found through the practice of love. It's in work, in the rigorous exercise of powers of mind or body or spirit. It's a gift the created world is perpetually offering; the price of it is untiring attention to the present moment. It is to be found alwas and only in the contemplation of reality.

Hunt it down, pursue it, track it to its lair where it dwells. Not in pleasures and pastimes, disctractions, piled-up satisfactions, and busyness. It dwells in truth, and nowhere else.

That's why it matters. It will show you moment by moment where truth is for you. And when you know that, cleave to it, turn not aside, be given up to that. That, if you will, is a way of life worth living.

quote by Michel De Montaigne

To compose our character

Is our duty.....

Our great and glorious masterpiece

Is to live appropriately.

All other things,

To rule,

To lay up treasure,

To build,

Are at most but little

Appendices and props..........
